Made in the USA and handcrafted in our leather shop, this premium leather overstrike guard is designed to help protect your axe handle from everyday wear and the occasional missed strike.
Its versatile design fits flat against the bottom of the axe head on axes without ears, while gently covering the ears on axes that have them. This makes it compatible with a wide range of outdoor axes and hatchets.
Crafted from high-quality vegetable-tanned leather, each guard is available in rich drum-dyed colors that are rarely found in veg-tanned leather. Unlike surface-coated leather, the drum-dyeing process infuses color all the way through the hide, helping it resist cracking, peeling, and fading over time. The vegetable tanning process also produces a natural leather that is less likely to promote rust on your axe head than many other tanning methods.
Fit & Compatibility
This overstrike guard is designed to fit most common outdoor axe handles. The exact fit will vary depending on the size of the handle:
- Hatchets: The leather wraps around nearly the entire handle.
- Camping, limbing, and felling axes: The laces wrap farther around the handle, leaving more wood exposed while still providing protection where it’s needed most.
- Splitting mauls and large felling axes: The guard will still fit and function, but it will appear smaller in proportion to the larger handle.
