Description

This axe celebrates 325 years of forging tradition at Hults Bruk. The design is inspired by some of our favourite Hults Bruk axe models from the past. The head, with a gross weight of 0.6 kg (21 ounces), is of a classic Yankee pattern. Yankee and Montreal patterns as well as hickory handles were brought back from America by our ironmaster Ekelund in the 1870s along with new production techniques. With time these became some of our most popular and enduring axe models. The head is hand forged from Swedish quality steel, a hallmark of Hults Bruk axes and the bit is finished with a premium grind. The green colour is inspired by a range of Swedish Agdor axes from the middle of the 20th century and the red handle was a common feature on many Agdor models during the latter half of the 20th century. The label and the shape of the handle are inspired by some of the oldest documented axes from Hults Bruk, found in a catalogue from the 1890s. We have fitted the anniversary axe with a hickory handle and a sustainably sourced leather sheath which was manufactured in Sweden from a vegetable tanned, full–grain leather. Included with the axe you will also find a key ring with a decorative and commemorative ship nail as a reminder of how our forging tradition began in 1697.

The Hults Bruk 325 Anniversary Hatchet

2022 marks the 325th anniversary since Jacob Reenstierna established Hult’s iron and steel factory in 1697. To mark the occasion, the factory has created a commemorative limited edition axe called, simply, the “325”.

  • The axe head is hand forged at the historic Hults Bruk forge.
  • Each axe is made from high-quality Swedish axe steel, expertly tempered to hold a very sharp edge even after repeated sharpening. The blade is made razor-sharp through a 5 step premium grind that is performed in a similar manner to how Premium series axes are finished.
  • Painted iconic green with a red handle,
  • Curved American hickory handle protected with linseed oil.
  • Each axe comes with a vegetable tanned, full–grain leather sheath which was made in Sweden.
  • A detailed and extensive booklet is included featuring the history of the Hults Bruk works. Also included is a key ring with a ship’s nail which is to commemorate that the first items made at the works in the 1700s were nails for shipbuilding.
  • The design is inspired by some of our favorite Hults Bruk axes from the past. In 1870, ironmaster Ekelund brought back American production techniques and axe designs like Turpentine and Yankee patterns with hickory handles. With time these have become symbols for Hults Bruk axes. The head of our Anniversary axe, with a gross weight of 1.25lb, is a classic Yankee pattern and the bit has a finishing with a narrow 5 step premium grind. It is hand forged from Swedish quality steel, another symbols of Hults Bruk axes.We have equipped it with a hickory handle and a specially made leather edge cover, manufactured in Sweden from a vegetable tanned, full–grain leather. Enclosed together with the axe you will also find a key ring with a ships nail as a reminder of where our forging tradition began. The label and the shape of the handle are inspired by some of the oldest documented axes from Hults Bruk, found in a catalogue from the 1890s. The label contains an old logotype with the initials HM which stands for Hults Manufaktur. In the past our axes have been available in a wide range of colors. The red and green of the anniversary axe have been borrowed from our Agdor range that was introduced in the 1930 and made Hults Bruk famous around the world. This particular green was inspired by axes sold in Sweden in the middle of the 20th century and the red handle was a common feature on many Agdor models during the later half of the 20th century.
